Smart to have Smart Chili on hand
I just came back to earth after an amazing 5 days at the American Dietetic Association’s annual Food and Nutrition Conference. (Recap to come soon!)
Contrary to what you might think about a food and nutrition conference, we’re not exactly fed meals. Instead, we’re invited to explore the football-sized expo hall with hundreds of food vendors handing out thousands of samples (think Halloween for dietitians on steroids…Halloween on steroids, not the dietitians). After 5 days of nibbling samples, and wining and dining way too late at night, I was ready for a solid, veggie-packed, home cooked meal.
Last night’s dinner was not that. I was too tired and fried to cook. Thankfully I had received coupons from Mambosprouts.com for LightLife products and stocked up on some Smart Chili. The smart chili is in a single serve pouch, ready to just heat and eat in the microwave or stovetop. I decided to dump my chili into a microwave safe bowl before eating – heating up my food in a plastic pouch doesn’t sound very safe to me. I also added a big serving of frozen mixed veggies (after eating an entire cucumber – I was seriously craving some veg!) and heated up my chili dish.
While I love making my own chili – which takes no time at all – this Smart Chili was great to have on hand in a pinch. And, the ingredient list for this processed pack wasn’t too scary either. The protein (19g) and fiber (12g) content made me very happy.
It tasted great, kept me super satisfied, and had a nice kick but wasn’t too spicy. I’m happy to have another pouch on hand, because cooking dinner from scratch tonight isn’t going to happen either. I have an exciting talk planned for the members of Revolution Fitness in Boston, so that home cooked dinner will have to wait ‘til tomorrow.
P.S. Wondering who won my CSN giveaway? It was Beth! Congrats Beth – I’ll be in touch with your prize info!
