Raw Organic Cafe

Last Tuesday I played hookey with Elizabeth and took a day trip out to Beverly, MA for a raw lunch and curly hair cut at Cala Renee Salon (the raw lunch was not at the curly hair salon!). Elizabeth had been to the Organic Garden Cafe before, and I had tried some of their catered meals in the past, but was excited to visit the cafe for a lunch with my favorite RD to be.

I’ve been to a few raw restaurants, and have enjoyed the meals, but not as much as the one I had at OGC. Usually I find that certain flavors (like garlic) are extremely strong in raw meals since there is no cooking to sweeten them or mellow out the flavors. My meal at OGC tasted fresh and filling.

I ordered the Neesa bowl which had curry sauce, shredded beets, avocado, kale (I swapped it in place of the spinach), brown rice, quinoa, and mung bean sprouts. It was slightly sweet and super crunchy. It was kind of like a jacked up massaged kale salad that I make at home. Elizabeth enjoyed her Monk’s bowl.

We both ordered a sweet treat: blueberry cobbler for Elizabeth, and apple cobbler for me. The crumble was so moist and the apples fresh and juicy – I loved every single bite of it. And I barely missed the fact that I’m used to a crunchy cooked topping on apple cobbler.

Lunch was a huge hit, and so were our curly hair cuts! Have you ever been to a raw restaurant?

I’ve been meaning to get up there for awhile. I tried the raw food place in the north end last year (no longer there) and loved it! Everything looks great : )

There’s a raw place in Newton too – Prana Raw. Out of all three raw places (this one, prana, and grezzo) I like this one the best.

this place is just a town over from where I live. I LOVE it, although unfortunately it’s a little on the expensive side for my grad-student-budget. 🙁 I’ve never tried the things you ordered — they look delicious.
