Shredded Sauteed Brussels Sprouts


While at Wegman’s, I picked up this bag of shredded brussels sprouts. Brussels sprouts are one of the few veggies that I absolutely love, but Funk does not. He’ll eat them, but not too happily. I thought if I prepared them in this shredded form, instead of my usual roasted brussels sprouts, he either a) might not even notice they’re brussles sprouts or b) will suddenly love them, just prepared differently.

I sauteed the sprouts in some olive oil with salt and pepper. Nothing fancy. To sweeten up the slightly bitter flavor of the brussels sprouts, I added in a handful of dried currants. A few minutes later this simple side dish was done. I loved it! Funk? Well, Funk did not. I have to give him credit for trying, but he concluded he doesn’t like brussles sprouts and never will. Ah well, more for me. If you’re a b.s. fan, you’ll love this insanely easy veggie side dish.

    I’m on team “don’t-like-em” too…sorry but I have to side with Funk on this one! I’ve made exactly one recipe with them where they were edible, but I found myself picking around them to get to the gnocchi. Poor, sad brussels 🙁

    Faith – before you rule them out completely, you NEED to try this Brussels Sprouts recipe: It is the only one my husband likes and was a HUGE hit at Thanksgiving last year!

    I don’t mind brussels. I think they’re good w/ toasted nuts. I have had them with a salty pancetta before and they’re AMAZING made in that way but not really up your alley.

    I love brussels sprouts and always looking for new recipes! I haven’t seen a bag of shredded brussls yet but I’ll be on the lookout next time I’m at the grocery store.
