Tufts Health Plan 10k

Remember this?

My favorite race EVER was finally here! And I was determined, once again, to participate even though my hip is still not up to snuff.

My mom joined me for her second Tufts Health Plan 10k, and my 5th. We intended to (power) walk the course, which we did last year in a speedy 13 minute mile walking pace.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and unseasonably warm for October in Boston at 85 degrees. I’m not one who looooovves hot weather, but I really do like running in the heat. I figure if I’m going to sweat anyway, may as well get drenched. Mom and I started at a decent walking pace for about half of a mile before we broke out into more of a jog, which we continued for the rest of the course (go mom!). It was the farthest I’ve run in nearly two years since my surgery and I was happy to be moving my legs on some of my favorite streets in Boston with 7,500 other runners and walkers.

I’m already looking forward to next year’s race, and I know my mom is too even though she swore up and down she won’t do it again. I’ve said it before: this is my favorite race ever. My goal is to participate every single year until I have to hobble across the finish with my old lady walker.

Any Boston readers out there run the THP 10k last week?

I ran! It was a great day, despite the heat. I love the positive energy of the crowd and runners. I run many races, yet the Tufts 10K continues to be my favorite racing event! My family cheers me on, then we always have a picnic on the Common. My mom has run/walked the past 2 years. Even though we don’t complete the race together, It’s a great bonding experience for us and I’m so proud of her!

Nice work by both you & your mom! I didn’t run it, but have heard great things about that race from a lot of folks. Keep it up & you’ll be the Fauja Singh of the Tufts 10K!

Love it – congrats! 85* is so warm for October, I bet those water-stop volunteers were busy. 🙂

This is race on my bucket list, I’ve always heard/read great things about it!

If only you all weren’t all the way on the other side of the coast, I’d totally be doing this too! Yay to yoy and your mom! I love that she’s so active too.
