Wegman’s in Massachusetts!

Over the weekend, my friend Toni and I took a highly anticipated trip about an hour away to Northborough, MA where the first Massachusetts Wegman’s grocery store opened last month! I hold a special place in my heart for Wegman’s: spending four years in Syracuse, NY for college, I grew to love the supermarket that had some of the best prices, selection, and friendliest employees around. They just seemed to get the grocery shopping experience there, and for someone who considers grocery shopping a hobby, they won me over. I hadn’t set foot in a Wegman’s in about 7 years, so I was ready.

I went without a grocery list (bad idea) and just wanted to stroll the aisles and pick up fun non-Trader Joe’s products. Nearly an hour and a half later and a much, much lighter wallet, we loaded up the car with our Weg’s goodies. But not before enjoying a Wegman’s lunch! Their prepared food section is one of the highlights and Toni and I each made a plate of hot food from the vegetarian section and enjoyed lunch. The coconut kale we had was incredible, and I’m going to try to replicate it at home.

Some goodies I picked up included Saranac beer, which is a favorite from my college days but I can rarely find it near me. I snagged two bags of Mary’s Gone Crackers sea salt sticks, which are my new favorite snack addiction. They’re super duper crunchy, high in protein and fiber, and contain no refined flour. I was very excited to visit the fish counter, where I swear some of the friendliest people in the world work (this was the case at the Syracuse Wegman’s fish counter too). I was convinced to try Opah fish, which is coral-colored like salmon when raw, but lightens up when cooked and has a light, slightly sweet flavor. I also picked up some salmon burgers to stash in the freezer, and some new (to me) varieties of olives from the Mediterranean Bar. One thing I have to note is that as insanely packed as the store was on a Sunday afternoon, the lines moved incredibly fast and never had more than one other person in line!

    Just a few thoughts.
    1. Wegmans is my sanctuary! Where else can you wallow in figs, kale AND artisan cheese?
    2. Your lace nails are amazing.

I’m making pros and cons lists for all the final houses we’re seeing this weekend. One of the houses has “Close to Wegmans” in the pros list 🙂

And my criteria includes a Trader Joe’s nearby. I’m so spoiled with one a block away! They now sell coconut oil. Every time they get a new fab product I think “Why would I ever need to go anywhere else!?”

WEGMANS!!! I need to go! I’m so surprised Steve and I haven’t made a trip yet. We both grew up with Wegmans right around the block in Buffalo, and it holds a special place in our hearts 🙂
